How to Organize Baby Clothes: 6 Tips and Tricks

Having a baby is one of the most wonderful things in the world, but it also comes with a lot of added responsibility. One of the most daunting tasks for new parents is organizing baby clothes. There are so many different types and styles of clothes, how can you possibly organize them all? Don’t worry, we’re here to help! In this article, we will discuss some tips and tricks for how to organize baby clothes like a pro!

1. Sort clothes by size

This is probably the most obvious tip, but it’s also the most important. You want to be able to grab whatever size you need at a moment’s notice, so sorting by size is essential.

Start by going through your baby’s clothes and separating them into piles by size. Once you have all the clothes sorted, you can start organizing them in whatever way you see fit.

Some parents like to keep all of the clothes for one size in one place, while others prefer to mix and match sizes. There is no right or wrong way to do it, so do whatever works best for you!

Other tips include:

  • Have a designated place for clothes that are too big.
  • Have a place for clothing that is too small.

Sometimes baby is bigger or smaller than average, and you don’t want to get rid of those clothes just yet! Instead, you may want to save bigger items for future use, save smaller items for babies in the future, or donate them to charity.

2. Group together like items

Another great way to organize baby clothes is by grouping together like items. For example, you can put all the pants in one place, all the shirts in another, and so on.

This method can be beneficial if you have a lot of clothes for one size. Having everything grouped together makes it easy to find what you’re looking for and keeps your baby’s closet looking neat and tidy. Plus, it’s a great way to prevent clothes from getting lost in the shuffle!

If you want to take things a step further, you can even group together like items by color. This is especially helpful if you have a lot of clothes in one size, as it makes it easy to find what you’re looking for.

For example, you can put all the blue shirts in one place, all the white pants in another, and so on. This method is excellent if you have a lot of clothes or if you want to be able to find things quickly.

3. Create a system for storing clothes

Once you have all of your baby’s clothes sorted and organized, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to store them. There are a few different options when it comes to storage, so take some time to figure out what will work best for you.

First and foremost, figure out which clothes you want to keep in the nursery and which ones you want to store elsewhere. Of course, this is entirely up to you, but making this decision is essential before you start organizing your storage.

Then – and this may be the most crucial piece of advice – wash all of your baby clothing items. This will help prevent any stains or odors from setting in, and it will also give you a chance to check for any damage that may have occurred during storage.

Hanging baby clothes

One option is to hang clothes up in your baby’s closet. This is a great way to save space and keep clothes from wrinkling. Plus, it’s easy to see what you have when everything is hung up.

With the help of a few other nifty closet organization products, you can turn your baby’s closet into a veritable storage powerhouse:

  • Hangers: You’ll need hangers for hanging clothes, of course! Be sure to get the right type of hanger for your baby’s clothes (i.e., plastic hangers for lightweight baby items, wooden hangers for heavier items).
  • Closet dividers: These are great for organizing clothes by size, season, or type.
  • Storage bins: These are perfect for storing out-of-season clothes, extra blankets, or anything else you want to keep in the closet but out of the way.

A few tips when hanging baby clothes:

  • Use stack hangers to maximize space.
  • Use matching hangers for a cohesive look.
  • Invest in good-quality hangers to prevent clothes from slipping off.
  • Avoid overcrowding the closet by only hanging up what you need.
  • Hang a clothes organizer over the door to keep often-used items within reach.

While folding clothes may not work for everyone, it’s definitely worth considering if you have the space.

Folding baby clothes

Another possibility for storing baby clothes is folding them and putting them in a baby dresser or chest of drawers. This is a great way to keep clothes organized and wrinkle-free. Plus, it’s effortless to see what you have when everything is folded neatly.

There are a few things to keep in mind when folding clothes:

  • Be sure to fold clothes neatly, so they don’t get wrinkled. Use the file fold method for a neat, professional look. This trick to this method is to fold the clothes so that they look like they’re being filed away in a drawer – fold at the top, bottom, and sides so that the clothes lay flat.
  • Use drawer dividers to keep things organized. Dresser drawer dividers are great for separating folded clothes by size, season, or type. Plus, you can add as many or as few dividers as you need, so they’re totally customizable.
  • Label the dresser drawers, so you know where everything is. You can use chalkboard labels or stickers. This way, you can quickly tell which drawer has what type of clothing.

A nursery dresser is a great choice for storing folded clothes but is not the only option. If you don’t have a lot of space, you can also use storage bins or baskets.

Storage bins and baskets

Storage bins and baskets are great for storing folded clothes because they’re compact and can be stored almost anywhere. Plus, they’re easy to grab and go when you need them.

Here are a few tips when using storage bins or baskets:

  • Choose the right size bin or basket for your needs. You don’t want something too big or too small. This goes for the actual size of the bin and the opening – make sure it’s big enough to fit your hand inside so you can easily grab what you need.
  • Opt for clear bins or baskets to easily see what’s inside. This is especially helpful if you’re storing out-of-season clothes or items you don’t use often.
  • Label the bins or baskets, so you know where everything is. Again, chalkboard labels or stickers work great for this.

Closet System

Another great way to organize baby clothes is to use a closet system. This can be anything from a simple rod and shelf set up to a more complex system with drawers, bins, and doors. Closet systems are great because they make the most of your space and keep everything organized in one place. Plus, you can usually find one to match your budget and needs.

When it comes to closet systems, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • First, you’ll need to measure your space and decide how much storage you need before buying anything.
  • Think about how you want to organize your clothes – by size, season, or type. This will help you decide what type of system to buy.
  • Consider how easy it is to access the items you need. You don’t want something that will be a pain to use.

There are a lot of great closet systems on the market, so take your time and find one that’s right for you.

When it comes to organizing baby clothes, there are a lot of different options to choose from. It all depends on your personal preferences and what works best for your space. Whatever method you choose, keep it simple so it’s easy to maintain. A little bit of organization goes a long way!

4. Label each storage container with baby’s name and the size of clothing it contains

This is a great way to keep track of what clothes are for what child, and it’ll make it easier to grab the right size when you need it. You can use chalkboard labels, laminated labels, or stickers for this.

However, this isn’t only for clothes your little one is wearing every day, it’s also a wonderful system for storing out-of-season clothing or clothes that no longer fit.

If you have the closet space, consider using a vacuum-sealed storage bag for these items. You can even do this for baby shoes too! This will help protect them from mites and pests and take up less space than a storage bin. Plus, you can write the child’s name and size on the outside of the bag, so you know what’s inside.

5. Rotate baby’s clothes every few months to ensure that everything is used

This is a great way to keep your little one’s wardrobe fresh and help you see what clothes need to be replaced. Every few months, go through your child’s closet and dresser and pull out any clothes that haven’t been worn in a while.

While you may use some items more than others, it’s important to rotate everything, so your baby has a chance to wear all of their clothes. This is also a good opportunity to get rid of any clothes that no longer fit or are too worn out to be used.

6. Don’t be afraid to get rid of outgrown baby clothes- there’s no point in storing something if it’s never going to be worn again!

As your child grows, their clothes will start to feel tighter, and they’ll be ready for the next size up. When this happens, it’s time to go through their closet and get rid of anything too small.

It can be tempting to hang on to clothes in the hopes that your child will wear them again someday, but it’s important to be realistic. If an item is too small or worn out, it’s time to let it go.

The same goes for clothes your child has outgrown but still in good condition. Instead of holding on to them, consider donating them to a local consignment shop or children’s clothing store. This way, someone else can enjoy them, and you’ll have more space in your home. Keep a donation bin nearby so you can easily get rid of clothes as your child outgrows them.
